December 14, 2015 “Life Is War”

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places”. (Ephesians 6:12)

Good Morning My Dear Friends!

Quite often, when I come to the end of the day, I feel as though I have been through a battle and all I want to do is just get away from it all. I may escape by watching some television. Of course, watching the news brings more angst as I hear reports of skirmishes, terrorist attacks, political bickering, and battles raging across our nation and the world. So I go to the computer to unwind a bit. There I read of those things and others to which I have just alluded. In fact, as Jesus declared, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars.”  (Matthew 24:6).  Theologian John Piper said:

“Life is war…Prayer is primarily a wartime walkie-talkie for the mission of the church as it advances against the powers of darkness and unbelief.”

Life is war, and spiritual warfare is always being waged. Our mission as Christians and the Church is to defeat the enemy, replacing chaos with comfort, pestilence with peace, gruesome reality with “Good News” reality. In order to accomplish this, we must always be on the ready and realize that no matter how we may long to just acquiesce to the harsh realities of living in a sin-filled world, we are on a God-given mission, and must persevere. This means remaining in a constant state of communication with our Commander, the Lord, through the “Walkie-Talkie” of prayer. The Lord will prevail, as shall we, as we turn to Him day by day…hour by hour…minute by minute…until the victory is won! When you need to rest, rest in the Lord. He will “renew your strength that you will  “mount up with wings like eagles.” (Isaiah 40:31) Let’s pray!

O Lord our God: You are our strong Commander…Mighty in battle and Mighty to save. renew our strength for the battles set before us this new day. We will keep open the line of communication through prayer. We will turn to you, our Wonderful Counselor, for our strengthening, our guidance, and our protection. Blessed be the Name of the Lord forevermore. Amen!
