November 16, 2015 “The Scripture Solution”

“For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.” (Romans 1: 21-23)

Good Morning Dear Friends!

These days, there is an entire industry designed to assist in the creation of meaningful, lasting relationships. You see it advertised on television under a variety of names, for it has become a competitive industry. The idea is that you are matched with people who have similar interests…people who are relatively the same age, religious preferences, and who possess other distinctive characteristics based on the data you and they provide to the company. A computer  finds what seems to be a good match and you are invited to “connect” with this person. It’s really not a new concept, with the exception of the computer. It’s called communication.

When it comes to the single-most meaningful relationship in your life, scripture has the solution as well. It involves communication with God called “prayer.”  God’s desire is that we come to know Him intimately. He already knows everything about us, and desires to reveal more of Himself to us through the medium of prayer. We already have evidence of His skills. “The heavens are telling the glory of God.” We know how loving he is. “For God so loved the world that he gave His Only-begotten Son.”  We know his “bottom line”. “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.” Does this sound like a good prospect to you? It certainly does to me. God is inexhaustible in His majesty, beauty, holiness, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness.  Why would you settle for anything less? Yet, people are often attracted to counterfeit “gods”…suitors for our affections that promise much but deliver only heartache and disappointment. Paul notes that when he says “Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of a corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.”  Not very wise at all! Christian author Andrew Strom wrote:

“Know your HOLY GOD intimately. (When you have seen His glory, His holiness and His love – by drawing close to Him in prayer – then you can usually see through any counterfeits because you know the “real thing” so well).”

Employ the “scripture solution”. Get to know God in all His magnificence by drawing close to Him in prayer. He has so much more of Himself to reveal to you. Believe me, you will fall in love with Him…guaranteed! Let’s pray!

Beautiful Savior; Time spent in Your presence in prayer is precious and blessed. We adore You, God of the Ages. We worship You and praise You and delight in being in Your magnificent presence. teach us more of  Your nature. reveal it to our hearts, that we would be wooed by no other, for You alone are worthy of our devotion. How we love you, O Lord. Amen!
