Greetings Everyone!

Recently, my beautiful wife Lydia and I took a road trip from Florida to Pennsylvania along with my brother and sister-in-law to visit my mother. On our way back, we stopped at a filling station near the Georgia boarder which had a fruit stand out front. At this fruit stand were some wonderful looking peaches from one of the local orchards, and we just couldn’t resist. It turned out to be a great decision, because we discovered that they were absolutely delightful…flavorful and juicy as we had hoped and expected. Sweet summer fruit is such a treat, and a wonderful gift from God. Just as those peach trees brought forth their good fruit, we as Christians are expected to bring forth good fruit as well. Being the good gardener that he was, Paul knew a way to assure a good harvest. He knew how to pray. In this continuation of his prayer for the Colossian Christians, Paul prays that these newly seeded Christians would “walk in a manner worthy of the Lord” and…”to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work”. I am sure that the caretakers of those peach orchards in South Carolina did all they could do to assure that the trees of the orchard would yield a good crop, (which they did). Those peaches, after all, represented the fruit of their labors, as well as their reputation. We represent God’s vineyard. Paul’s prayer is that the Colossian Christians live a life “worthy of the Lord.” They represent Christ to others in the community. Paul’s prayer, made on their behalf, is that:(1) God would help them live for him.  In addition, Paul prays that they would (2) Bear much fruit, that fruit being “good works”. Paul also prays that they would continue (3) “growing in the knowledge of God.” Paul is asking God to help these Christians live for Him in every way. As I pray daily for the church I pastor, this is my prayer as well. I invite and encourage you to join me in this prayer, no matter where you may worship. It is a prayer suitable for Christians everywhere. Together, let us lift up our fellow believers that God would help them live for Him, that they would bear much fruit, demonstrated by good works, and that they would grow in the knowledge of God. Doing so will please God and that’s just peachy! Let’s pray!

Mighty Lord: It is our prayer that those of Your Church, including each one of us, would live a life worthy of our citizenship in the Kingdom, that we would bear much fruit that would manifest itself through good works, and that we would never cease growing in our knowledge of You. Bless us, we pray, in this endeavor, for we ask it in Jesus’ Holy Name. Amen!
