October 30, 2014 “The Hidden Heart”

“An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels.” (Proverbs 31:10)

Good Morning Citizens of God’s Holy Nation!

My wife is a big fan of one of the cable channels that specializes in romantic movies. Most of them follow a particular formula in which the man or woman who are destined to connect romantically are initially involved with a different man or woman. Those viewing recognize early on that the initial pairing is not the right one, though in the movie, it takes the man or the woman much longer to come to that realization. I have to chuckle a bit at the initial lack of perception evidenced by their”destined for failure”  romantic choices and what it takes for them to come to the more desirable, and inevitable conclusions they make, but that’s what makes the stories compelling.

Unfortunately, in the real world, some never do come to their senses romantically and wind up in relationships destined for failure. This is a timeless challenge. Thousands of years ago, the writer of Proverbs recognized that true love involves more than an initial romantic attraction to another. He says, An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels.”  Quality gems are not easily found. It takes time, effort, and a skilled, discerning eye to discover them. When the writer of Proverbs speaks of excellence, he is speaking of a woman who has a heart for God, first and foremost. The wise man looking for a meaningful love relationship will do well to find a woman who has a heart for God. Christian author Max Lucado writes,

“A woman’s heart should be so hidden in God that a man has to seek Him just to find her.”

Like a miner seeking a precious gem, the wise man will understand that the greatest treasure is one not easily found. To find a woman with a heart for God, it is necessary to find God himself first of all.  In Isaiah 55:6 we read, “Seek the Lord while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near.”  Are you seeking for the love of your life? Seek for God first. Then you will find the one whose heart is hidden in God…that precious gem fashioned just for you. When you discover it, treasure it.  Let’s pray!

King of Glory; Grant that I might have a discerning heart, seeking You first of all in every aspect of my life, for in You is treasure beyond compare. Thank you for the riches stored up for me through Your graciousness and unequaled love. This I pray in Jesus’ Great Name. Amen!
