September 10, 2014 “Jehovah-Nissi- The Great Protector”

“Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.” (Psalm 127:1)

Good Morning Beloved Friends!

Today marks the eve of a day that will be forever remembered in our nation as a day of infamy. Most of us who were alive and old enough to remember September 11, 2001 know exactly where we were when we first heard of the attack on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the thwarted attempt of even more destruction which took the lives of those brave souls. aboard flight #93 in Shanksville, PA. The world has been a different place ever since. There is a heightened sense of vigilance around the world, and particularly in our nation, as the anniversary of that day is approaching once more. Even now, terrorists are carrying out their agendas of vengeance against those they regard as infidels as our President prepares to address the nation this evening to lay out our own nation’s plans to bring an end to this threat. I urge every believing Christian to cry out to God for His protection, for without it, as the psalmist rightly states, “Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.”

God is the Great Protector. His name in Hebrew describing this is “Jehovah-Nissi”. He is the One who defends, delivers, covers, preserves, shelters and watches over us. We need to call upon Him in our prayers for protection. I salute those who are vigilant in the protection of our nation. I applaud those who courageously serve in our military. I pray for those who are charged with the awesome responsibility of political leadership. Most of all, and more importantly, I turn to “Jehovah-Nissi”, the “Great Protector”, that our nation might abide under the shelter of His wing. I commit to pray for our national leaders as well as the people of other nations during these troubling days when evil is on the march. I take great comfort in the knowledge that “the gates of hell” shall not prevail against “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High” , who “will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1). Living in the shelter of the Most High involves daily prayer, submission to God’s authority, obedience to the Word, regular worship, and gratitude. Join me this day, and every day, in praying for our nation, its leaders, those who serve to protect our freedom as well as the freedom of others, that we might “find rest in the shadow of the Almighty”. Remember-“Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.”  Let’s pray!

Merciful and Mighty Lord, Jehovah-Nissi; I  come to you this day praying for this land I love. I pray for Your protective Hand to be upon us as a nation, upon our leaders, upon those who serve in harm’s way, and upon those nations dealing daily with those carrying out an evil agenda of death and destruction. You alone are our Rock and Fortress, our strong tower, against a relentless enemy. Our trust is in You, O Lord, for Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen!
