July 29, 2014 “From “A” To “Z”

“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” (Revelation 21:13)

Good Morning Prayer Partners!

The news is full of unsettling, disturbing, even frightening items these days. There is fighting on the Gaza Strip. Civilian planes are being shot from the sky in the Ukraine. The Soviets have violated the longstanding treaty regarding nuclear missile testing. Our boarders are being flooded with illegal immigrants fleeing the tyranny in their own nations. Mexican drug lords are killing hundreds of people. If these things don’t bring a person to their knees in prayer, I’m not really sure what will!

Yet, Christians, persecuted or not, have been commissioned by the Lord to be bearers of Good News to the world. It is not a commission to be lightly dismissed. Nor is it a commission to share something that isn’t true or simply wishful thinking. The commission has been given to us by the one in whom all authority in heaven and on earth has been given. His name is Jesus Christ, and it is he who speaks the words heading this post in the Book of Revelation. He is the one who spoke the world into being. He is the Alpha…the beginning, the source of all life and everything that exists. He is also the Omega…the fulfillment of everything that was and is and is yet to come. This is Good News for a troubled, war-torn world. It’s easy to get discouraged if all we focus on throughout the day are the terrible things that are transpiring in the world. We may wonder why God does not act. He already has. He is not ignorant of world events. He is not sitting on some heavenly throne watching with disinterest as human events unfold. He has already invaded history and forever changed its ultimate outcome by becoming a man himself, bearing the sin of all humanity on the cross. Just as he rose in victory from the grave that Easter morning some two thousand years ago, he lives now, ever at work through his faithful followers to bring about the day when his will shall be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Dr. Billy Graham once said,

“I have read the last page of the Bible. Everything’s going to turn out alright.”

Yes, everything will turn out alright, and we who know Christ will reign with him for all eternity. But for now, we have a great work to do, for not everyone knows that yet. Even today, tens of thousands will be born around the world who will have no knowledge of the Good news unless we diligently, expectantly share it with those around us. Tell someone today about the love Christ has for them. Make a life-changing difference to someone living in ignorance of the gospel. Don’t be afraid. He has promised to be with us wherever we go. Everything’s going to turn out alright. Let’s pray!

Faithful, glorious Lord; When I grow discouraged by what I read or hear, remind me to bring to mind those promises in your Holy Word. Remind me that I am a child of the King and have a sure inheritance awaiting me in heaven. Remind me that I have been commissioned to share this Good News with everyone, even to the uttermost parts of the earth, to let the whole world hear and believe that You love us. This I pray in the name of the Alpha and the Omega, Jesus Christ. Amen!
