February 4, 2014 “Bringing our the God-Colors”

“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world.” (Matthew 5: 14- The Message Bible)

Good Morning Prayer Partners!

When i was a boy and off to Sunday School each Sunday morning, the part I always loved the best was at the very beginning of the day when all the classes would gather as a group and we would sing those great old Sunday school classics. We’d sing songs like “Climb, Climb Up Sunshine Mountain”, “Jesus Loves me”, “Jesus loves the little Children”. One of my very favorites was “This Little Light of Mine…I’m Gunna let it Shine.” We’d pretend to be holding on to a candle as we sang and protecting it when Satan tried to blow it out! In his Sermon on the Mountain, found in the fifth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus tells his listeners, “You are the light of the world.” The implications of that reality are indeed staggering. In saying this, he is:

1: Comparing us with himself. In John 8:12, he makes that claim of himself, so we are to be like him.

2. Declaring that we are to shine with the light of God as his representatives to a dark world. It is a light not meant to be hidden, but to shine brightly in the things we say and do. People come to know of Christ through us and the way we live.

If we are not aglow with holiness, with love for God, and with the expectation of heaven, we won’t even be able to pray effectively, according to E.M. Bounds, who wrote,

“He only can truly pray who is all aglow for holiness, for God, and for heaven.”

Let your light shine. Don’t let satan blow it out. Make your relationship with God known to those around you. Keep the fire burning. Shine on! Bring out those “God Colors” in your life. Let’s pray!

Glorious Lord; We pray that the Light of Christ would burn brightly in our hearts that others may see our good works and give glory to You. Keep the flame burning brightly in our hearts, we pray, in Jesus’ Blessed name! Amen
