September 30, 2013 “The Lord Who Hears”

Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself;
    the Lord hears when I call to him.(Psalm 4:3)

Good Morning All!

Have you ever stopped to consider that prayer may be an exercise in futility? At one point or another, even the most devoted prayer warrior has most likely gone through some season of doubt. That’s the Enemy’s plan…make us doubt that God is not listening to our prayers. Knowing that we are believers in God, his tactic may be to make us ponder our “unworthiness” upon approaching God. He has us focus on our sin rather than on God’s grace. He reminds us of our shortcomings and attempts to discourage us when God seems silent. It is important at such time for us to remember the definition of godliness. The “godly” are those who are faithful and devoted to God. David was far from perfect, but he understood that God would hear him when he prayed and would answer him. So he prayed confidently and with expectation. We, too, can have such confidence. Oh, there are those times we think that God will not hear us because we have fallen short of the high standards for living a godly life. The truth is…we all have fallen short. But if we have trusted Christ for our salvation, we know that God has forgiven us and he will listen to us. In those times you feel that your prayers are just bouncing off the ceiling, remember that as a believer you are chosen of God and he loves you. He hears you and will answer you. Look at your challenges in the light of God’s power instead of looking at God in the shadow of your problems. “The Lord is my light and my salvation! Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life! Of whom shall I be afraid?” Let’s pray!

Most Gracious and Loving Lord; in those times of doubt, remind us of your never-failing love for us. Your Son sacrificed His life for us. There is no question of the depth of Your love for us…no question of your grace and mercy. “The Lord hears when I call to him” Jesus loves me…this I know…for the Bible tells me so! To God be the glory! Amen!
