August 22, 2013 “Arms Open and Outstretched”

But you, dear friends, carefully build yourselves up in this most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit, staying right at the center of God’s love, keeping your arms open and outstretched, ready for the mercy of our Master, Jesus Christ. This is the unending life, the real life! (Jude 20)

Good Morning and Many Blessings Dear Friends!

Whenever i come home after being gone for a while…and this may be a short while or a long while…I know when i come in the door I am going to be greeted with unbridled excitement by our little dog Sassy. She is always genuinely happy to see me. She’ll run into the living room, jump up on the sofa, ready to give me her doggie kisses and let me pet her and return her unfettered and unconditional affection. If she had arms, I am sure they would be outstretched and ready to receive the returned affection that she unselfishly gives to me. She makes sure she stays at the center of my attention and my love. Jude reminds us that the way for us to stay at the center of God’s love is to “carefully pray in the Holy Spirit…keeping our arms outstretched, ready for the mercy of our Master, Jesus Christ.” I understand this to mean that we approach God with arms flung wide…unhesitatingly and with genuine trust and affection. Think back to your childhood, and how you did that as a child when your mother or dad came home from work. remember how you dashed over to them, arms open and ready for a hug. As a parent, remember how you received that affection with a joyful heart.  As you pray, get ready for the tender mercies of God. In that mercy you will find the “real life.” It is the unending life God desires for you. Know that the Holy Spirit intercedes for you and prays with you and for you. Stay at the center of God’s love. Let’s pray!

Mighty God; we run to you today with arms outstretched, ready for the mercy of our Master, Jesus Christ. What a savior and Lord we serve! What wondrous love is ours through Him! Indeed, this is real life, and in it, we rejoice and praise Your Holy Name. Amen!
