August 20, 2013 “Joy In The House of Prayer”

“And as for the outsiders who now follow me, working for me, loving my name, and wanting to be my servants—All who keep Sabbath and don’t defile it, holding fast to my covenant— I’ll bring them to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer.”  (Isaiah 56:7)

Good Morning Joyful Friends!

My beautiful bride Lydia is a huge fan of house renovation shows. One such show called “Love It Or List It” features couples considering moving from their current home to a newer home…some downsizing, some up-sizing, for various circumstances because the home in which they currently reside no longer meets their needs. The premise of the show is that a realtor and a home renovator compete in satisfying their requirements. The realtor seeks a replacement home that will satisfy their particular desires, while the renovator seeks to take what is already in their existing home and make it more “livable”. Quite often, when all is said and done, the home owners are so pleased with the renovations in their existing home that they decide not to move after all. Things they thought were of no use anymore are transformed into something they could not even begin to imagine. At the time of Isaiah, the Israelites lived in such a “home”. God comes along and speaks through his prophet isaiah and tells them that his home is about to be ‘renovated” to become more accommodating to those the Israelites considered “undesirable” …foreigners and eunuchs! Who would have anything like that in their home? The answer is…God would! Those who “bound themselves to God”, no matter their nationality or life circumstance, would be welcome in this God renovation project! He has a name for his house, too. He calls it the “House of Prayer.” It is a place where joy is to be found to all who call upon him. That means that each of us is welcome as we live obediently, reverently, and prayerfully. It’s a place you’ll just love. You won’t want to move. There will always be room in the House of Prayer for you. Like those in the show say upon seeing pleasing renovations to their home, when they are asked, “Love it or list it?”…you will joyfully respond “LOVE IT!”  Let’s pray!

Most gracious and Loving God; to dwell in your House of Prayer, a house that is a place of joy to all who dwell within, is a blessing beyond comprehension. We rejoice in its splendor, which is a reflection of your abiding presence. We love it, Lord! We love You, Lord! Amen!
