July 20, 2013 “Help For Today”

“And may these words of mine, which I have prayed before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, that He may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel according to each day’s need,” (1st Kings 8:59)

Good Morning and Blessed Saturday Everyone!

More and more, I am coming to understand the reality that each day is a gift of God. Not one of us is guaranteed a day on this earth beyond the one we are currently living. There is certainly a parallel between this prayer of Solomon’s and the way Jesus taught his disciples to pray. Jesus prayer directive was, in part, that we petition God to “give us this day our daily bread.” God has given us this day, which happens to be July 20, 2013 for me at this writing, in which to live, to honor Him, serve Him, love Him, proclaim Him, depend on Him, pray to Him, and worship Him. Solomon had requested wisdom from God, which was granted to him. This prayer demonstrates that wisdom in his prayer life, for hundreds of years before Jesus’ teaching on prayer, he is praying in such a fashion. His prayer taught the Israelites of his time, as it instructs us this day, that we should pray for God’s help to meet each day’s need. Look at it and ponder it once more…Solomon prayed, “may these words of mine, which I have prayed before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel according to each day’s need.”  In this prayer, Solomon understands (1) It is important to pray each day throughout the day.(2) Dependence on the Lord rather than on ingenuity or human design. (3) That it is important to seek God’s help for the day’s specific needs. Today, as we pray, let us understand these things and confidently make our requests for this day known to God throughout this day He has given us. Let’s pray!

Loving God:  Guide and direct us throughout this day. May the communication line be opened continuously as we come to you seeking your help to live this day You have granted us according to Your most perfect will. May all we say and do honor you. This we pray in Jesus’ blessed Name. Amen!
