June 4, 2014 “According To His Will”

This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to his will, he will hear us.” (1st John 5:14)

Good Morning God Seekers!

I heard a story a while back about a little boy who wanted to say a prayer to Art. The puzzled daddy asked his little boy who Art was. The boy replied, “O daddy, you know…Art in heaven…Hello! What be thy name!” Though he did not know his name for sure, the boy knew where to direct his praying…to the One Who listens. John tells us there that it is with absolute confidence that we may approach God. He assures us that if we ask anything that is in accordance with his will, he will hear us. John places the emphasis here on God’s will, not our will.  When we communicate with God through prayer, we don’t do so demanding what we want. Rather, we make our petitions known to God and discuss with God what it is that he desires for us. We can be confident that he always has our best interest in mind, for he is the giver of “every good and perfect gift.”  If our prayers are aligned to his will, we can be assured that he will listen and we can be certain that if he listens, he will give us a definite answer. That’s what it means to pray with confidence.  So how do we know if we are praying according to his will? The better we get to know God, the more we become like him in our own life. It’s called ‘sanctification”. And the more like him we become, the more we learn to pray things that are in accordance with his perfect will for our lives. So pray with confidence. “Art in heaven” will hear you! Let’s pray!

Loving heavenly Father; As we pray, teach us to do so with the complete confidence that you do hear and desire nothing but the best for our lives. Encourage us to bring all our prayers and petitions to you, trusting you to answer those requests perfectly and always for our benefit. Accept our thanksgiving and praise which we bring before you now. Amen!
