May 21, 2013 “Come Lord Jesus”

“Amen! Come Lord Jesus”  (Revelation 21:20)

Good Morning Everyone!

In yesterday’s blog I meditated upon the topic of the last words we might utter before being called home to meet the Lord. Today, I wondered what the last prayer recorded in scripture might be, so I turned to the book of revelation and discovered that prayer. It is the one noted above: “Amen! Come Lord Jesus.” This prayer immediately followed the promise of Christ’s return. As I ponder the situation that exists in today’s world where sin abounds, seemingly unbridled , it is not difficult to understand why such a prayer would conclude scripture. In fact, Jesus taught his followers to pray for that day. When his disciples asked him, “Lord, teach us to pray”, his response, in part, was to instruct them to pray “Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”  When he stood before Pilate, he told Pilate that his kingdom was not of this world. He was speaking of the kingdom of heaven. So, in praying that prayer, we are, in fact, making that same prayer each time we pray the prayer Jesus taught us to pray...Come, Lord Jesus. We pray for Christ’s return. We pray for the day when every knee will bow and every tongue confess His lordship. We pray for His eternal reign over all. We pray for His peace. We pray for his ultimate victory. let’s pray!

Heavenly Father: We do indeed pray “Come, Lord Jesus”. Establish your Kingdom of earth as it is in heaven. Fill us with God-news to wherever we go and in whatever we do. We are yours, Lord, and we live to serve you. Come, Lord jJesus. Amen
