May 7, 2013 “Teach Us”

“Then Manoah prayed, ‘O Lord, i beg you, let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born'” (Judges 13:8)

Good Morning Christian friends!

I have no idea how many books have been written on parenting. My guess would be hundreds, if not thousands.  We all want to be good parents. We all want to see our children grow up to be model citizens, godly men and women and, God willing, exemplary parents to their own children if they should be so blessed.  Manoah did a wise thing. He began praying for his yet unborn son. He prayed that the child would have a strong godly example to follow as he grew. The “man of God” that was sent to him was none other than the Angel of the Lord (though Manoah was unaware of that). The as yet unborn child for whom he made this prayer was Samson.  At the end of this chapter from Judges, we read, “The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the Lord blessed him, and the Spirit of the Lord began to stir him while he was in Mahanea Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.”  It is important for us to intercede before the Throne of Grace for our children. They will face many challenges in life as they grow.  Fortified by the power of prayer, the likelihood that they will grow to become the men and women of God we would desire will be increased exponentially. God honors such prayer.  Join me today in prayer for our children, our grandchildren, and the children and grandchildren of our community, nation, and world, wherever they may be. let’s pray!

Mighty Lord, today we come before your Throne of Grace, thanking and praising you that we have the privilege of praying for our children. We ask that your Spirit of truth would surround, protect, and guide them as they grow. Raise them up to become men and women mighty in spirit, godly in thought, word, and deed. grant us the wisdom and the passion to teach them your ways through our own faithful witness and diligent prayer. This we ask in Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen
