May 4, 2013 “It’s No Use”

“God has no use for the prayers of the people who won’t listen to him.” (Proverbs 28:9)  “The Message Bible”

Good Morning Saints of God!

There are people that I know who are quite skilled in expressing their opinions about any myriad of topics, be it politics, religion, child-rearing, sports…you name it…but who haven’t embraced the important companion skill of being good listeners.  As I meditated on this verse from Proverbs , it occurred to me that as we pray, (which is conversing with God,) it is twice as important for us to listen as it is to speak. In fact, this verse emphasizes that God has “no use for the prayers of those who are unwilling to listen to him. What good are they? It would be akin to going to the doctor, explaining the symptoms you are experiencing to that doctor, and then leaving without hearing the diagnosis and what can be done to remedy the malady. Humble submission and obedience to God involves listening and responding to God’s directives.  As you come to the Lord in prayer this day, take time to listen and obey as well as speaking what is on your heart. Remember, we have but one mouth and two ears. Coincidental? I think not! It’s twice as important to listen as it is to talk. Let’s dialog with the Lord in prayer. Let’s pray!

Most patient and loving God, First of all, thank you for your instructive word that teaches us how to relate to you in prayer. As we thank you, praise you, and bring our petitions to you, minister to our hearts that we might be attuned to that which you desire us to hear. Teach us to listen and meditate and be at peace in our hearts, knowing that you are a loving and wise Heavenly Father, more than ready to instruct us and to respond to our every prayer. Teach us to listen with expectation to your answer to our prayer. In Jesus’ most holy name we pray. Amen
