“My part in this was to put down the enemies, subdue the land to God and to his people; your part is to give yourselves, heart and soul, to praying to your God. So get moving…” (1 Chronicles 22: 18-19- The Message Bible)

Good morning, Fellow Life-Travelers,

In today’s passage from 1st Chronicles, King David has charged his son Solomon to commence with the building of the temple. God granted David with the vision for its building, but the responsibility of completing that task was given to Solomon because David was a man of war, and Solomon a man of peace.  Everyone of us has a task to perform in God’s great master plan. David ordered the leaders of Israel to give themselves, heart and soul, to the task of praying. When I came to Mooresville, NC as an Interim pastor last July, it was to engage in some specific ministerial and transitional tasks, which I have been doing. The continuing task of the membership of the congregation I serve is the same as that of the leaders of Israel, and a task we should all embrace…to give of ourselves, heart and soul, to praying. In my case, like David to Solomon, the next phase of ministerial leadership of the Mooresville congregation will soon be passed on to another. But also like David, I admonish and encourage you, whoever you are and wherever you worship, to keep on praying to God. So get going! There is still much work to be done! Never forget the importance of fervent, passionate, specific, intentional prayer.  Without it, the “temple” will not stand.  Fortified by it, it will prevail as a mighty witness to the reality of the resurrection we proclaim boldly, and many will come to be disciples of Christ because of your faithfulness in the ministry of prayer.  So let’s get moving! Let’s pray!

Mighty and Everlasting God, your servant David has reminded us in your Holy Word to give of ourselves, heart and soul, to praying. We thank you for that marvelous engagement with You. To know that our prayers serve to advance the day when Your Kingdom will come and Your perfect will is done on earth as it is in heaven encourages us and ignites the desire in our hearts to be about that most important endeavor. Hear our prayer, O Lord, that we make this day in the Blessed Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom be glory now and forevermore,. Amen
